Kate and William ‘trying to find right balance’ with ‘unprecedented’ move

Princess Kate has sparked a debate on GB News after her intimate yet highly produced announcement video marked an “unprecedented move” for the royal.

The video featured the Wales family and offered a rare glimpse into the lives of Kate and William, along with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince George.

However, GB News presenter Andrew Pierce admitted that the production scale of the announcement made him feel “uneasy”, questioning if the video was “too Hollywood and glitzy”, given the sensitivities surrounding cancer.

Putting the question to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, he offered a defence for the Princess and said that although it has “undoubtedly sparked debate” and has a “certain amount of slick packaging”, it is something “completely new” for the Wales family and “offers a purpose”.

Fitzwilliams explained: “It’s a change – this is completely new, and it’s totally unprecedented to see the Prince and Princess of Wales so intimately.

“But things do evolve, and the royals have never projected themselves like this before, and so it is done for a purpose.”

However, Fitzwilliams noted that it is a “question of balance”, recalling the infamous and controversial Royal Family documentary that was “locked away” for being “far too intrusive.

The royal commentator added: “I was so moved originally when she told us that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy. It was done deliberately and for a purpose, and that purpose was to spread the word.

This is a very difficult time for the Royal Family, especially with two senior members suffering from cancer, but hopefully things are going in the right direction.”

Offering her verdict on the announcement video, host Bev Turner argued that the Wales family may have been needing “a bit of PR” given Kate’s prolonged absence from royal duties, given their popularity with the British public.

Noting a recent interview with James Middleton, Princess Kate’s brother, Bev asked Fitzwilliams about the fresh insight into the Middleton “sibling dynamic”.

Fitzwilliams told GB News: “I think the Middletons… you could say perhaps are the unsung heroes of the Royal Family.

Michael and Carole Middleton were seen at Royal Ascot very briefly, but you can just imagine what’s happening behind the scenes.

“And yes, James has had a lot of publicity in the Daily Mail on this, but the fact is that there’s obviously real assistance and backing, done unlike so many things in the Royal Family, quietly but absolutely pivotal.”

Echoing Fitzwilliams, Andrew added: “And of course, Kate’s parents were also in her announcement video, because they are a very, very important part of the family.”
