Pippa Middleton left her brother ‘tearful’ message after fearing James Middleton ‘had gone away to die’
Pippa Middleton left her brother a tearful voice mail message after fearing he had gone away to die, James Middleton writes in his new book.
Pippa and James are the younger siblings of the Princess of Wales and remain very close to the royal.
In his new book titled Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life, James Middleton opens up on his battle with depression and a pivotal trip to the Lake District with his dog Ella.
James said he had no phone signal for the two and a half days he was in the Lake District and once he left and was able to receive texts and calls he messages from his family who were concerned for him.
He writes: “We set out, the dogs and I, on our southbound journey and I know the exact spot where the mobile phone signal comes back.
“The pings come thick and fast. ‘Where are you, James?’ ‘We’re desperate to get hold of you.’ ‘OK, we’re really worried now.’
“My family thought I had gone away to die, to end my own life. I realise that now.
“I feel full of regret for not recognising just how panicked I’d made them.
At the time, however, irrationally – and unjustifiably – I feel annoyed, controlled. I’m a grown man. It has been the most formative trip of my life.
“I had not gone away to end my life. I’d gone to find a reason to live. And I’d discovered it. So why was everyone intruding?
“I picked up a voicemail from Pippa: ‘James, we’re all so worried about you. Where on earth are you?’ Her voice was tearful with concern, with just an edge of reprimand.”
James adds in the book that he opened up to his parents Carole and Michael Middleton about his mental health battle.
He also told his sisters Kate and Pippa with the latter inviting him to stay at her home.
The book also explores how James met his wife Alizee Thevenet with the help of his dog Ella.
James and Alizee got married in September 2021 and have an 11-month-old son named Inigo.
