Andy Murray sent a hilarious message to Robert MacIntyre on social media after the latter’s fiery outburst at the Irish Open. MacIntyre failed to control his anger during his second round at Royal County Down and was caught swearing on the course.
The 28-year-old was left furious with himself after a poorly-struck chip, and hit the turf with his club before launching into a verbal tirade. He later took to X, formerly Twitter, to apologise for his behaviour but insisted that he would not change his ways.
I do this at least once a year,” wrote MacIntyre. “I am sorry for the swearing on course but guess what I am not gonna change. I play golf with heart and fight.
Murray, who will team up with MacIntyre in the pro-am of next week’s BMW PGA Championship, cheekily urged his fellow Scot to mind his language when they are on the course together. He also joked that further botched shots would be ‘guaranteed’ in a light-hearted dig at his golf partner.
Hopefully we don’t hear any of those sort of words next Wednesday,” replied Murray. “I can guarantee you will see some thinned drives however.
Murray will be hoping to give a good account of himself at Wentworth after becoming the latest big name to sign up for the pro-am event. He has made no secret of his desire to improve his golf skills, having recently taken a private lesson in a bid to sharpen up.
The 37-year-old is making the most of his free time after bringing the curtain down on his tennis career at the Olympics during the summer. Speaking last week, he insisted that he was not regretting his decision to walk away as he opened up on the benefits of retirement.
“Since I’ve stopped, I feel really free and have got lots of time to do whatever it is I want,” he told BBC Radio 4. “I can dedicate time to my children and have free time to play golf or go to the gym on my own terms. It is really nice and I didn’t expect that.
“I was expecting to find retirement hard and be missing tennis a lot and wanting to get back on the tennis court on tour. So far it has been the complete opposite to what I was thinking.
