The ‘real story’ behind Meghan and Prince Harry’s feud with William and Kate laid bare
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been involved in an ongoing feud with the Royal Family for quite some time – but tensions with the Prince and Princess of Wales have become more evident in the past year.
After meeting Harry back in July 2016, Meghan was soon introduced to her then-future husband’s family – which included his brother and sister-in-law.
Prior to the tensions developing, Meghan is said to have been wowed after being invited to William and Kate’s former home at Kensington Palace. Harry previously recalled the moment in his bombshell memoir Spare.
After visiting their home, which – according to Harry – took place in June 2018, Meghan was “taken aback” by Kate and William’s apartment – and thought that Harry “deserved more materially” as a member of the Royal Family.
Recalling the visit, Harry wrote: “We walked over one late afternoon. I saw Meg’s eyes widen as we entered their front door, walked past their front sitting room, down their hallway, into their study. ‘Wow’, Meg said several times.
Writing in his own book about the Princess of Wales, royal author Robert Jobson said: “It is understood that when Meghan and Harry had gone round to have drinks at William and Catherine’s apartment, while they were still living at Nottingham Cottage opposite, Meghan had been ‘taken aback’ at the disparity between the brothers.
Quoting Mr Jobson’s book and the words of a close source, The Independent wrote: “‘I am not saying Meghan was jealous, but she was really surprised how lavishly Harry’s brother was living compared to where they were living.”
The book also stated that this was “perhaps the beginning of all the tensions between the two couples”.
In Spare, Harry also wrote about an alleged physical confrontation between William and himself back in 2018. This is something that was reportedly over Meghan – with William referring to his sister-in-law as ‘rude’ and ‘difficult.
The Duke and Duchess moved to the US with their son Prince Archie shortly after announcing they were to step down as senior working royals in 2020.
Tensions also began to rise after Meghan and Harry appeared in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021.
The couple used the interview to discuss their own experience in the Firm, including Harry’s relationship with his father and Meghan’s mental health struggles.
