Iga Swiatek shares a beautiful message for Serena Williams

Iga Swiatek qualified for the 4th round of the US Open by beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets, with the final score of 6-4 6-2. A match that was never in doubt: the Polish WTA No.1 showed a solid performance, as a leader. A performance that clearly conveys a message of challenge to all the other stars still in the draw.

At the press conference, Iga talked about the meeting with Serena Williams at the US Open, who told the current WTA No.1 to root for her.

“Serena is really nice and really positive. I’m happy that she follows tennis, you know, and, like, my game, because she told me that she’s rooting for me. It’s always nice to hear that from someone like Serena. It was really nice to see her. She has a lot of positive energy. It’s nice that she came on site and chatted with the players, because for me, yeah, I still felt, even though we met before and for a couple of years we were on the same side and on tour together, that she’s still driving me crazy! It was nice that she approached me, because I definitely wouldn’t have had the courage to do it if it was the other way around,” she said.

In the previous on-court interview, they asked Iga about seeing a smile from her coach, Tomasz, which is quite rare from him, in a moment of fun, before asking the Pole where she’s trying to get the improvements in her tennis.

“Since I started working with Tomasz, I felt like I have more variety and options on the court. I’ll try to give them more opportunities to smile because it’s definitely not easy for the coach to smile. So I’ll try to play the best tennis I can so that we can all enjoy it. Where am I trying to improve? I think everywhere honestly. It’s not like my tennis is perfect. Sometimes it feels weird because I’ve been No. 1 and won these tournaments, but I still feel like I really need to work on some things,” she added.
