The unusual way Queen Camilla is following in Diana’s footsteps

Queen Camilla has followed in Princess Diana’s footsteps in one very subtle way, according to royal author Andrew Morton.
Speaking to OK!, the author has shared that, much like the late royal, Camilla has carefully chosen a host of “grittier and earthier” charities to represent.

Discussing Diana and Camilla, Mr Morton said: “In a funny kind of way, she [Camilla] is following in Diana’s footsteps.
“Diana picked the difficult charities, like AIDS, landmines and leprosy – all charities that live in the shadows. Camilla has done the same, actually, and gone for causes that are grittier and earthier.

According to the publication, Camilla has also shown a keenness to modernise the Firm
Camilla seemingly ended a centuries-old tradition by axing the Queen’s traditional ladies-in-waiting two months after the King ascended the throne.

Instead, the 77-year-old now has “Queen’s companions” to accompany her to royal events. These include six part-time, unpaid assistants.

Since marrying into the Royal Family in 2005 – and especially since becoming Queen – Camilla has made many charitable endeavours.

Camilla has mainly used her time to shine a light on many causes such as literacy and domestic violence.

She relaunched the Wash Bags Project earlier this year, a project that provides sexual assault victims with toiletries to use following a forensic examination.

In her efforts to raise awareness of domestic abuse, the Queen has visited refugees across the world, including in the USA and Nigeria.

Mr Morton, who was the author of the 1992 bestseller ‘Diana: Her True Story’, also said how he believed the late Queen would react to Camilla’s role in the monarchy over the past two years.

He said: “The [late] Queen would have been impressed… I think everyone has been impressed.
