Prince William’s ‘reassuring’ message to Princess Kate over new royal TV series ‘fears
Prince William and Princess Kate are allegedly worried about an upcoming royal TV drama called Royal Spin.
The series, written by author Omid Scobie, will tell a fictional story about an American press agent who gets a job at Buckingham Palace.
Mr Scobie, 43, has previously written two books about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle called ‘Finding Freedom’ and ‘Endgame’, both of which sent shockwaves through the Royal Family.
Ahead of the release of the new series at an as-yet unknown date, there are concerns about the impact of how the Firm could be seen. In the past, the likes of The Crown have caused controversy over their depictions of actual royals.
The Prince and Princess of Wales’ rumoured concerns come as the rift between Harry and William shows no sign of being closed over four years after the former moved to the USA.
A source told Closer UK that the upcoming show had triggered a degree of worry in Princess Kate who is recovering from her cancer treatment earlier this year.
They said: “The synopsis of the show mirrors Meghan and Harry’s story while hiding behind the guise of a fictional drama, and Kate is incredibly worried about potential storylines.
“William has of course assured her that the public will see straight through it just like always.”
Whilst the contents and impact of the series will not be fully understood until it is released, this hasn’t stopped Mr Scobie from commenting on the current state of the Royal Family.
Writing in Endgame last year, Mr Scobie claimed that Prince Harry was a “threat to the crown”. He explained: “These are probably sad realisations that will be had far too late in the journey.
“In the eyes of some within the institution, Harry is a threat to the crown. His freedom to exert his own thinking outside of the confines of the institution has made him the enemy.”
Mr Scobie also commented on the relationship between Harry and William, describing how they had moved from a united outlook to a disunited pair.
He said: “These were two men who once upon a time were firmly aligned in their outlook. One of them had to move on to also protect the crown.
The relationship between Harry and William has not been close since the release of the Duke of Sussex’s memoir Spare and his and Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Following the interview in March 2021, the late Queen Elizabeth II issued a statement on the matter. However, it was claimed by royal expert Robert Jobson in his book Catherine: The Princess of Wales, that William and Kate wanted a stronger statement.
He wrote: “The original draft of the statement had been much milder, but both William and Catherine had been keen to toughen it up. It was the then-Duchess of Cambridge herself who came up with the powerful phrase ‘recollections may vary’.
“Her husband also challenged the allegations, telling reporters, ‘We are very much not a racist family’. As far as William was concerned, Harry and Meghan’s behaviour was unforgivable, and they could no longer be trusted.”
