Prince William and Princess Kate quietly change key policy after huge criticism

The Prince and Princess of Wales have made a major change due to huge criticism, it has been revealed.

The couple previously shared new photographs, including pictures to mark their children’s birthdays, to media organised the night before the event.

However, since the criticism that the couple received over the Mother’s Day picture back in March, Kate and William now quietly release the pictures via their social media platforms.

Much like Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’s birthdays earlier this year, Kate and William shared a new picture of Prince George to mark his 11th birthday last week.

The image was – like the ones for Charlotte and Louis – released on the morning of July 22 on Kate and William’s X and Instagram accounts.

Speaking on the latetst Palace Confidential, the Daily Mail’s Richard Eden said: “Previously the Palace would give photographs, to mark a big occasion such as a birthday, to media organisations and newspapers the night before with embargo.

“They’d have the photographs and the details and then they would release it at a certain time, uusually sort of 11pm the night before [the event].”
He added: “But since that row over the photograph Catherine took and had been digitally altered [the Mother’s Day photo]

“The Palace has just put the photograph on social media the next day and it’s very significant, because previously agencies who had a policy of not distributing photographs that had been digitally altered, they would have to then raise concerns.

But now if it’s on social media, it’s up to media companies if they publish those photographs or not.”
He also added that the Palace has been “keen to stress” that this is not a new policy, but Mr Eden added that it, however, “seems to be that way”.

Discussing his own opinion on the change, he added: “You could argue [that] it makes sense.” With host Jo Elvin agreeing, and adding that “it stops a lot of fuss”.
