After Kate attending Wimbledon: Prince William’s identical tradition with mother Diana goes viral

The Royal Family has been known for being present at Wimbledon for decades. Recently, Kate Middleton and her daughter Princess Charlotte made headlines with their appearance during the 2024 Wimbledon final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. In doing so, the Princess of Wales and her nine-year-old daughter recreated a beautiful moment between Princess Diana and Prince William in 1991.

Their pictures immediately went viral on social media, and a side-by-side comparison while clapping created a heartwarming parallel that spanned decades of generational changes in the Royals.Bethan Holt, Fashion Director at the “Daily Telegraph” claimed that Kate’s decision to wear a purple dress was not a random one. She said (via PEOPLE),

“Wearing purple underlines how important that role is to her. It’s also the color of courage, which could be a nod to what she is going through.”

Aside from the shade of Kate’s dress resembling that of Princess Diana’s, Prince William had only just turned nine, much like Charlotte now, which added to the beauty of the comparisons between the two situations. While the tradition of the Royals attending Wimbledon isn’t new, seeing the young princess in the Royal Box became an emotional moment for the English fans, evoking memories of their beloved Princess Diana. While kids aren’t typically allowed in the exclusive area, there are notable exceptions for royal kids.

While the Princess of Wales was present at the Centre Court, Prince William was present at the Euros 2024 final in Berlin between England and Spain with his son, Prince George.
