The former World Number 1 is partnering with Norway’s Casper Ruud in doubles. They began their campaign with a bang, dominating their opponents Miguel Ángel Reyes-Varela and Guido Andreozzi to win the match in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. Subsequently, Perez was involved in a major goof-up, sharing Nadal’s post on his Instagram handle instead of posting it on Nadal’s official Instagram handle.
Benito Perez looks after the social media handles of Nadal and he wanted to share a glimpse of Nadal’s win today on the Spanish legend’s handle. However, he might have accidentally posted that glimpse to his own account, and this major blunder was caught by fans, who shared the blunder on platforms like Twitter.
Perez shared the picture of Nadal and Ruud from their victory and wrote, “Vamos Casper! Good win today in Bastad and this is not over.” Initially, he shared this post on his Instagram handle and despite deleting the post just moments later, it was caught by the fans, who shared this blunder further on social media. Later, Perez posted the same post on Nadal’s official Instagram handle.
Despite this major goof-up, the mood was positive in Nadal’s camp. Following his victory, Nadal reflected on his first win after quite a few days.
Rafael Nadal wants to ‘keep going’
At 38, time is running out for Nadal. Moreover, injuries have played constant spoilsport in recent times as his comeback looked unlikely at one point in time. However, the Spaniard has made a winning return, as he always does, this time with Casper Ruud. After the match, Nadal reflected on how he felt about his comeback success.
The Spaniard revealed, “It’s a pleasure playing with a good friend and an amazing player like Casper here in Bastad. Personally, I am happy and I think it was a good match. We played quite well in the first time we played together and I’m happy to be back here after almost 20 years. I have great memories from this place from 2003, 2004 and 2005, so I am enjoying this week and hopefully can keep going.
Nadal last won a title here in 2005 as a 19-year-old. Subsequently, he went on to achieve tremendous success and became one of the best players in the world. Despite this, he returns to the stage where it all started and aims to get vital match practice with the Paris Olympic Games coming up.
