Princess Charlotte’s cheeky three-word swipe to reporters at Prince Louis’s christening
Princess Charlotte was just three years old when her younger brother Prince Louis was christened at the Chapel Royal in St James’s Palace in July 2018, but she was old enough to make it clear she didn’t want the media around.
She and her older brother Prince George were filmed walking out of the chapel hand in hand with Prince William, as Princess Kate cradled her newborn son.
As the family made their way to the christening party from the ceremony, Charlotte turned to the waiting cameras and was heard cheekily making this three-word remark: “You’re not coming”.
Afterwards in the clip, William can be seen smirking slightly as his young daughter confirms to the press that they are not welcome at the private family event.
The video recently resurfaced on X, with royal fans in the comments laughing and gushing over Charlotte’s words and her father’s response.
One X user said: “I love PW [Prince William’s] face, he’s secretly thinking, you tell them”, while another added: “The sweetest!” followed by red heart and angel emojis.
Another simply commented: “Bless her” accompanied by a sparkling red heart emoji.
Louis was christened less than three months after his birth in April 2018, and wore a replica of the Royal Christening Robe, handmade by the late Queen Elizabeth’s dresser Angela Kelly.
The original robe was made in 1841 for the christening of Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter, but this one was considered too fragile for Louis.
George and Charlotte also wore the dress for their respective christenings in 2013 and 2015.
The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby led the service, as he had also led the service at the baptism of Meghan Markle in March of that year before she married Prince Harry.
Mr Welby posted on Twitter, as X was known as then: “I’m delighted and privileged to be christening Prince Louis today – a precious child made in God’s image, just as we all are.
“Please join me in praying for him and his family on this special day.
While George is destined one day to be King, his younger siblings Charlotte and Louis could have a future as working royals with distinguished royal titles.
However if the Firm continues exploring a more modern approach to monarchy they may decide to shun living in palaces, and Charlotte and Louis could end up in a “flat in Shoreditch”, according to an expert.
Royal author Kate Williams explained: “We understand that King Charles is aiming for a slimmed-down Royal Family, so it means [minor royals] may have to go and live in non-palaces. He doesn’t really live in Buckingham Palace at the moment, he’s renovating it and using it more as an office.
“And it will be interesting to see how Prince William might approach them if he still has children living with him. Maybe in the future we’ll see Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis getting a flat in Shoreditch together.
