What really happened between Meghan Markle and Princess Kate at Wimbledon revealed

The fallout between Princess Kate and Meghan Markle has been well-documented, with the two struggling to build a friendship even before Meghan was married to Prince Harry.
But back in 2019 their shared love of tennis brought them to Wimbledon together as they were snapped enjoying the game and smiling in the Royal Box.

Kate has been patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club since 2016 and likes to go to Wimbledon every year, where she usually presents the winners’ trophies after the finals.

Meghan too has been coming to SW19 since before she joined the Royal Family as she flew over to support her friend Serena Williams in the tournament.

In her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey the Duchess of Sussex gave an insight into what really went down behind the smiles as she and Kate sat at Wimbledon.

Oprah asked during the chat: “Did you feel welcomed by everyone? It seemed like you and Kate… at the Wimbledon game where you were going to watch a friend play tennis…

“Was it what it looked like? You are two sisters-in-law out there in the world, getting to know each other. Was she helping you, embracing you into the family, helping you adjust?”

Meghan tellingly responded: “I think everyone welcomed me. When you say, ‘Was it what it looked like?’ my understanding and my experience of the past four years is, it’s nothing like what it looks like.

Meghan then went on to speak about a conversation she had with a member of the Royal Family after they accused her of being too “everywhere”.
The Duchess explained: “There was a day that one of the members of the family, she came over, and she said, ‘Why don’t you just lay low for a little while, because you are everywhere right now.’

“And I said, ‘I’ve left the house twice in four months, I’m everywhere but I am nowhere.”
Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals in January 2020, just months after the Wimbledon snaps were taken.

Princess Kate has not yet been to Wimbledon this year, although her parents Carole and Michael Middleton have been spotted enjoying the match last week.

Due to her ongoing cancer treatment the Princess has not yet been back on royal duties, but her recent appearance at Trooping the Colour has raised hopes that she may visit her beloved SW19.

Officials at Wimbledon have said they are willing to be “flexible” with Kate’s plans, and a final decision on who will present the trophies is not expected to be made until the weekend.
