Charlie Woods Updates: Is He Playing Golf in June Despite Entering School’s…

Charlie Woods might not get much rest despite the school’s summer break! Why? The 15-year-old has a jam-packed schedule for June. Last year, Woods Jr. participated in nine tournaments, with his father, Tiger Woods, serving as his caddie in one of them. Overall, 2023 was a successful year for Woods Jr., highlighted by his high school state championship trophy and significant growth as a young golfer.

However, 2024 has been challenging for the young prodigy. In February, the 15-year-old made his first attempt to qualify for the PGA Tour at the Cognizant Classic but unfortunately failed. Later, he faced the same outcome when he tried to qualify for the 2024 US Open. Will these setbacks prevent Charlie from playing golf? Probably not!

Where is Charlie Woods playing in June?
June might be one of the most important months for the 15-year-old, with two major tournaments scheduled back-to-back. First, from June 19–20, is the South Florida Jr. PGA Championship at StoneBridge GC. Last year, he finished with a score of 75-81, tying for 33rd place. Although Charlie’s school, the Benjamin School, only allows golf camps for students in grades 4–8, and the 15-year-old is in 10th grade, the Jr. PGA Championship is an invitational tournament without such restrictions.

While there is no confirmation of him receiving an invitation yet, his past performances likely make him a strong candidate. Next up is the Jack Nicklaus Junior Championship, scheduled for June 22–23. Last year, Charlie Woods finished tied for 20th with a score of 79-75-154 at the 39th edition of the tournament. Unlike the Jr. PGA Championship, this tournament imposes some restrictions on players.

The tournament is open to players aged 11 to 18 as of June 22, 2023, for both members and non-members. Considering Woods Jr.’s age, there seems to be no issue with his participation. Additionally, for members, the tournament allows players from the SFPGA Medalist Tour. Although it’s only about June, the 15-year-old likely won’t stop there, as he has more tournaments lined up.

Charlie Woods’ plans for August and further
After taking a break in July, Charlie Woods might compete at the Old Palm GC in the SFPGA Jr. Cup in August, where he previously finished 10th with a score of 68-75-76. This is likely the only tournament he’ll participate in during August before moving on to the SFPGA Labor Day Classic in early September wherein he finished at T35 last year.
Despite having a two-month rest period, the 15-year-old’s hectic schedule is expected to continue through the end of 2024. In December, you might see Charlie Woods at the SFPGA Tour Championship at Park West Palm, where he achieved his best finish last year with a total of 69-73, tying for 5th place. This tournament is open to players aged 11 to 18 as of December 2, 2023.
