Why is it Attack Petra day recently?: Tennis fans defend Petra Kvitova on ‘wildly unfair…

Tennis fans came to Petra Kvitova’s defense after she got flak for treating a young spectator rudely in Miami and was compared to a different instance of Novak Djokovic being nice to a kid.

On Saturday (April 1), the 33-year-old Czech upset Elena Rybakina 7-6(14), 6-2 in the final of the 2023 Miami Open to win her ninth WTA 1000 title. World No. 7 Rybakina was on a 13-match winning streak, which included a title run at the 2023 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Kvitova became the second-oldest Miami Open winner, only behind Serena Williams.

As she walked towards her player’s box after winning the final, Kvitova signaled to a young fan and her mother, who wanted an autograph, to step aside as the player waited to hug her team. A tennis page called out the player by merging her video with another in which Djokovic could be seen gifting his racket to a kid after one of his matches at Wimbledon.

While Djokovic’s fans criticized Petra Kvitova, few defended her, saying that the kid’s mother was at fault and should have waited for the player to celebrate with her team.

“Leave Petra alone wtff?? She’s trying to hug her mum but that woman shoved her daughter into her face. autographs and pictures should be for after the ceremony. Why is it attack Petra day recently?” a fan tweeted.

Why is it attack Petra day recently??

I mean, it’s not ideal. But it’s her first title this size in 5 years!! I think she has the right to celebrate her win with her team before signing balls for a pushy fan. Everyone knows that wasn’t the right time to get a ball signed,” a user wrote.

Making a video like this with such different contexts is so dumb. Petra had just won her 1st WTA1000 and just wanted to see and hug her team. It wasn’t the time to sign autographs, she could’ve been sweeter in the way she said it but there no right way to react after such a win,” another tweet read.

Here are some more reactions:
There is a difference between the videos fucktard. Was Djokovic trying to celebrate and hug family and his team? No. Because that’s not where they sit. Stop trying to make something that it isn’t.

There’s an increasing sub culture on this app where people are just making anything tennis related about Novak Djokovic.
This is wildly unfair and not the same.

@kvitovaserena Oml. I saw this live actually, and I was like, “Why tf is that girl and her mom getting in the way?” Can’t believe ppl are attacking petra for that, smh

@perfecttennisuk Pretty sure Novak had celebrated with his team already. Kvitova had not. Relax.

@perfecttennisuk Not comparable at all. She tried to hug her mom and that woman pushed the girl in her way 🤪Have never seen such behavior from fans. It is common that they give the player space to celebrate with their box.

@perfecttennisuk Does the cult have nothing better to do than to attack other players? Is Novak so boring that you can’t feel fulfilled otherwise?
